Fieldfare

Turdus pilaris

Fieldfares are amongst the largest of the thrushes found in Norway, with an average weight of up to 130gr and average wingspan of 40-42cm.

They can be found across Europe, and in some parts of Asia all the way to the north of China. In Norway they breed across the entire country, and in habitats ranging from grassland to light forests, the coastline, and even in the mountains. In more urban areas they can also breed in parks or other green areas.

Breeding behavior

Fieldfares often breed in colonies, where they benefit from eachotehrs protection against intruders.

Fieldfares lay 4-6 eggs per clutch, and some may even have several clutches per breeding season. The eggs are incubated for around two weeks, and chicks fledge two weeks after hatching. Parents follow along and feed their chicks until they're around one month old.

Diet

They're omnivores that feed on worms, insects, and spiders during summer season, and primarily berries during winter season, although they may also eat fruit like apples.
