Black-Headed Gull
Chroicocephalus ridibundus
The Black-Headed Gull is a small gull characterized by their black heads, and incredibly chaotic and lively sounds, something that's reflected in their scientific name as well.
"Chroicocephalus" means "colored heads", and "ridibundus" translates to "laughing", so their scientific name literally means "laughing colored heads".
Some languages, like English (black-headed gull) and Norwegian (hettemåke) seemed to have based their common name based on the visuals as well, whereas in French they're called "laughing gulls" (mouette rieuse).
Unfortunately these little troublemakers are critically endagered in Norway, due to a reduction in population size of over 80% the last three generations. At the end of the 80s, we had up to 120.000 of them in the country, and currently we have less than 20.000 left.
